1. Why use a personal lubricant?
Even if you don't think you need a personal lubricant, you will be surprised what it can do to enhance your intimate moments with your partner. Use of a high quality personal lubricant will allow for longer intimate experiences and will reduce muscle soreness and skin irritation. Try a warming or cooling lubricant for new sensations and stimulation, while a waterproof silicone personal lubricant will allow for exciting encounters in the shower, bath or swimming pool. V brand personal lubricants are the next generation of personal lubricants and are dermatologically formulated with moisturizing properties.
2. What is the difference between a water-based personal lubricant and a silicone personal lubricant?
A water-based personal lubricant is the most commonly purchased lubricant because it is gentle, water soluble and washes off the skin and fabric easily, using soap and warm water. Water-based lubricants will absorb into the skin and usually require more than one application when compared to silicone lubricants. Water-based lubricants are compatible with most toys and easy to clean. Silicone personal lubricant is more expensive than water-based lubricant and is silkier, longer lasting and typically does not require more than one application. Silicone lubricant is waterproof and can be used in the shower, bath and swimming pool. While silicone lubricant can be washed off with soap and warm water, it has been known to stain some fabrics — be careful with bed sheets, clothing and tile surfaces.
3. Why do you use glycerin in your products?
With the exception of V Ultra-Sensitive Lubricant and V Silicone Lubricant, all of our water-based lubricants are made with pure vegetable-based pharmaceutical grade glycerin. Glycerin is a soft and gentle FDA and USP approved ingredient that has been used for over a century in such products as personal lubricants, soaps, skin moisturizers, lotions, deodorants, hair care products, makeup, toothpaste, shaving cream, foods, pharmaceuticals and medicines. In lubricants, glycerin is used as a moisturizer and to provide the smooth, slippery and fluffy feel. Most personal lubricants on the market today contain glycerin because it is safe, slippery, and gentle. Although chemists have developed alternative polymers to mimic the benefits of glycerin, many of these ingredients are not FDA or USP approved and are likely not as gentle and safe on the body as glycerin.
4. Does glycerin cause yeast infections?
On occasion, we come across customers that believe glycerin contains sugar and may cause yeast infections in women – both of which are untrue. No medical studies by doctors, gynecologists or dermatologists have ever substantiated this false claim; in fact, some medications to treat yeast infections contain glycerin. As with all products that exist in the world, a small percentage of the population may have a reaction to every day common and safe items such as milk, nuts and glycerin. Not to exclude these ultra-sensitive individuals who may be prone to allergic reactions or chemical hypersensitivities, we do offer V Ultra-Sensitive Lubricant, a glycerin-free water-based lubricant.
5. What are Parabens and do your products contain them?
Parabens are a group of chemicals widely used as preservatives in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. V products do not contain parabens – we use natural plant extracts to preserve our products.
6. You offer organic massage oils; do you intend to offer organic personal lubricants?
No. As chemists and formulators, we believe that a personal lubricant should contain only FDA and USP approved pharmaceutical ingredients that have been studied for more than a century and known to be safe and stable. Many of the personal lubricants in the market that claim to be "organic" will substitute some of the common pharmaceutical ingredients for other vegetable-based ingredients or polymers that are not approved by the FDA or USP; the stability and reaction of some of these ingredients is uncertain.
